Part of the Lake Stevens Riptide Select Baseball Program's mission statement is Community and specifically developing our athletes to be positive stewards within their community. With this at our foundation, our athletes participated in a supply drive for our local animal shelter.
This Saturday, October 26, established a new partnership with NOAH Center (no kill animal shelter) located in Stanwood, Washington. Riptide athletes volunteered at PetSmart in Marysville to raise supplies for our local animal shelter. Athletes worked from 9 am to 5 pm speaking with PetSmart customers about the NOAH Center. The relayed today's event was aimed at gathering food and supplies (treats and toys) for the dogs/puppies and cats/kitties awaiting their forever homes! Riptide athletes took supply and cash donations. Athletes utilized cash donations to buy more food for The Noah Center. Riptide athletes were very successful! We are super proud of our Riptide athletes and super impressed with their courage to speak to others about a cause that is important to them. They are beacons of positivity and love! Please enjoy the pictures from our volunteer event! We will be delivering the collected supplies to The NOAH Center next Sunday, November 3, 2019. Be on the look out for updates! This last Friday October 25, Riptide kicked off its 2020 Season with a 9U, 10U, 11U athlete Meeting/Halloween Party hosted at Wintergreen Tree Farm in Snohomish. Coaches reviewed expectations for the winter training, practices, and tournament season while the athletes enjoyed dinner.
After the initial meeting and dinner, athletes enjoyed several team building games including: Hula Hoop Challenge, Noisy Neighbors, Zombie Caterpillar, Dot Game, and Skulls/Eyeballs Relay Race. The 9U team dominated the two team specific games including Noisy Neighbors where two members of each team were secretly assigned an animal, blindfolded, then challenged to find each other using only the animal sound they were assigned. Riptide's 9U Team also won the Zombie Caterpillar game where the team was required to inch their way down the raceway and cross the finish line first! Teams were mixed up for the Hula Hoop Challenge, Dot Game, and Skulls/Eyeball Relay Race! The night continued with a pumpkin carving and costume contest. We ha about 15 volunteer parents who served as judges for both contests. Each athlete strutted down our faux runway to model their costume! Prior to coming to the party, athletes carved pumpkins which were made in to official Jack-O-Lanterns prior to judging took place! Winners received gift cards from our sponsor Dick's Sporting Goods. Winners of the contests were: Pumpkin Contest- Scariest Pumpkin: Faith Jackson Most Creative: Blake Moser Cutest/Most Adorable: Jared Pugsley Costume Contest- Scariest: Jared Pugsley and Spencer Sanders-Pugh Most Creative: Nicholas Christiansen and Tayden Sundin Cutest/Most Adorable: Ax Padilla. The night ended with a terrifying stroll through Riptide's Haunted Walkway! Some of Riptide's 14U athletes (Bryce Moser, Jacksen McAllister, and Izaak Paulson) volunteered to be official Haunted Walkway ghouls/zombies! Coach Charles and Coach Cameron dressed up to add extra scare, and we had guest monsters including a Riptide Grandpa (Doug Barsuglia) who provided screams and thrills in the Haunted Graveyard and Riptide Dad (Nolan Perkl) who cemented the final scare of the Haunted Walkway with a frightening costume paired with a chainsaw! Riptide is extremely grateful to the Perkl's at Wintergreen Tree Farm for allowing us to utilize their indoor space to host our Halloween Party. Wintergreen Tree Farm will open soon for the Christmas season! Please consider purchasing your Christmas Tree from Wintergreen Tree Farm this holiday season! Riptide is also very thankful to Lisa Black, owner of L&M Wedding Rentals for donating tables, chairs, and table linens for the Halloween Party. Please reach out to Lisa and her team for all of your wedding day and/or event coordinating needs. Lastly, Riptide is sincerely appreciative to the Team Operation Leads who worked to plan, organize, and bring the party to life decorating! Team Operation Leads that were instrumental at bringing this party together include Lisa Black, Andrea Sanders-Pugh, Tara McAllister, Tabitha Moser. We are thankful for our coaches (Coach Cameron, Coach Beno, Coach Charles), our TOLs, Kate Nichols, as well as, Brandi and Nolan Perkl for helping get the event spaced decorated and organized for the event! We are appreciative to Staci and Kyle Peper for allowing us to borrow their screen and speakers!
